It really puts into perspective (heh) of how wack my drawings are. I really recommend checking out his works and books if you’re serious about learning perspective. Here are some basic perspective construction techniques from Scott Robertson: When it comes to drawing man-made and hard-surface stuff like cars and other vehicles, perspective is really important. I realize my explanations aren’t the best so here’s a video where I use this method. Since the HZ is in the bottom half of the frame, the lines should converge upward. Now do the same steps as above except you have a line overlapping the median line instead of the HZ. I recommend keeping this line near the center of the picture frame to reduce distortion. This is the line where our point of view is on. For a 3 points grid, we need to decide on a median line. Less skewing means a narrower field of view. It is important to keep the line on the HZ in the same place. These lines will converge on the right since the other VP is on the left side of the frames. The overlapping line is to make sure the lines converge correctly on the HZ. Use the skew transformation to make the lines converge. On a new layer, draw a bunch of parallel lines to the HZ, these will be the guides to the off-page vanishing points. Draw any vanishing points within the frame first.ģ. Draw the picture frame and the horizon line.Ģ. The only caveat is that the horizon line must be within the picture frame or near it.ġ. Here’s the way to draw the grid accurately using skew transformation without needing to extend the canvas. However, if the vanishing points are off the page, we can either guess, or extend the canvas. If the vanishing points are within the frame, it is easy enough. I can’t remember if I came up with this method myself or I saw it somewhere before but I’ll put it here so I don’t forget it. This is a simple and fast way to set up 2 points or 3 points perspective grids if the vanishing points are outside of picture frame.
